Hoopers Creek Cafe, Flectcher, North Carolina - Restaurant Review

I found out about Hoopers Creek at my brother-in-law's wedding.  His new mother-in-law found it in her search for a caterer for the wedding reception and dinner.  We all loved the food and I heard many of the guests commenting on it as well.  To add to this, the caterer made the groom's cake.  Or in this case ... groom's cakes.  There were several cakes all boasting different flavors including chocolate, strawberry, caramel, red velvet and pistachio.  A cake for every palate.

Tomorrow is my wife's birthday so she decided on going to Hoopers Creek today for lunch.  Its a little drive from Asheville but its beautiful countryside, especially if you take Cane Creek Road.  The building itself you can see in the above photo isn't new or big.  Hoopers Creek Cafe is a diner first and foremost, when you have that firmly in mind then add the fact that Sonny Gasperson, the chef and owner, is a talented Chef.  He was the opening Chef for the Chop House in downtown Asheville among other locations.  He decided it was time to branch out on his own and open his own place.

The kitchen is tiny.  But over the years I've learned that its not the size of a man's kitchen but rather what he can do with it.  Don't read too much into that statement or you'll get off topic.  There is a small counter overlooking the kitchen as well as two dining rooms.  The second dining room is a little larger and boasts a bar on one side of the room with half a dozen beers on draft and apparently a small raised stage on the other.  The floor is an old wooden slat floor with large cracks that takes you way back to a long forgotten era.  Its really cool but ladies if you have heels, please be careful.

Because the operation is so small the service can be a little slow.  But remember you've stepped into an old time era and anticipate taking your time to enjoy the company with you.  The food is absolutely worth the wait.  How do you know that?  Because I'm writing about it.  If I didn't like it so much I just wouldn't have posted anything.  I ordered the Blackened Chicken Alfredo, shown above, and loved the flavors.  I like a little spice and was not disappointed.  Chef Sonny is know for his Prime Rib as well.  My wife ordered the prime rib and of course I got a small bite.  Rich, tender and flavorful.

The menu offers a variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees so everyone in your party should find something nice that they will enjoy.  A word of warning though.  Save room for dessert.  Sonny's mom bakes the cakes for Sonny and she knows what she's doing.  They are always a large slice and they are always a piece of heaven!  No matter your taste, you'll find a cake flavor to your liking.  I ordered the strawberry today and took about half of it home.

Hoopers Creek Cafe is a restaurant that you should try.  Tell Sonny I said great job!
