Stone Ridge Tavern in Asheville, North Carolina - Restaurant Review

Stone Ridge Tavern is a local, family owned restaurant with an enormous rustic fireplace that frames a beautiful wood covered dining room. Large cedar trees shadow over the restaurant with two large waterfalls that come alive with turtles, frogs, and fish. It's warm, cozy, mountain lodge atmosphere will make you feel at home as you dine.

The menu has something for everyone.  Lunch is served daily at 11am (except Saturdays) and includes fresh salads, homemade soups, delicious sandwiches, freshly ground burgers, and vegetarian specialties. Dinner is served daily at 4 pm and includes hand cut steaks, fresh seafood, authentic pastas, and BBQ ribs, and homemade desserts.  Also on the menus you will find fried gator tail, spanakopita (on days the Chef prepares it) as well as a variety of sandwiches and entrees.  They offer Greek, Italian and a variety of American dishes.

I ordered the Greek Salad to start my meal.  It's difficult for me to pass up on a good Greek salad.  The salad was served fresh and colorful with the dressing on the side so I could add dressing myself.  I found the dressing a little sweet but it was a good salad none the less.

I asked if the Spanakopita was available but unfortunately it wasn't the day Chef made it.  Since they grind their own beef for their hamburgers I thought I would give one a try.  So I opted for the Cheddar and Bacon Burger.  Sometimes when restaurants grind their own beef it can be dry so the burger falls apart or gamey and strong, but not the Stone Ridge burger - it was delicious.  I also had my choice of French fries, sweet potato fries, ripple potato chips, cole slaw, onion rings or potato salad.  I went with the sweet potato fries and found them crispy, a touch sweet and salted perfectly.

Stone Ridge Tavern is owned by a local family with a good reputation and a long history.  Its owned by one of the sons from the Poseidon Steak and Seafood Restaurant that closed years ago.  Obviously he inherited the 'foodie' gene from his parents and knew what to do with it.
