Above is a link to a very important nomination, James Beard Award. Our restaurant Cúrate (tapas bar) at 11 Biltmore Avenue in Asheville NC, opened March 5, 2011. We have been very well received, and we thank all of you who have made our restaurant one of your favorite new restaurants in Asheville.
Each year, restaurants are nominated for various categories for a James Beard Award. This year, we qualify for "Best New Restaurant" (a restaurant which opened in 2011 that already displays excellence in food, beverage and service and is likely to make a significant impact in years to come) and "Rising Star Chef" (A Chef, age 30 or younger, who displays an impressive talent, and who is likely to make a significant industry impact in years to come).
Duane Fernandes, Chef de Cuisine of Horizons:
Although Chef Fernandes has worked in New York City with some of the best, most of his culinary career has been in the South. Peninsula Grill in Charleston S.C. and Lemaire in Richmond VA are a couple of the highly acclaimed restaurants he has cooked in. Formerly the Executive Chef of Richmond Hill Inn, Duane now runs the kitchen in Horizons. Horizons is the flagship restaurant at The Grove Park Inn. Each year Horizons receives several awards including AAA Four Diamond and DIRONA, among others. Duane has been behind the stoves at Horizons for over three years. In this time he has elevated Horizons cuisine to another level. With an emphasis on local and seasonal ingredients, Duane's modern presentations and flavors are exquisite.
