Nancy’s Hush Puppies Recipe - best puppies you'll ever have!

Nancy's Hush Puppies Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups  Self-rising yellow corn meal mix
1 1/2 cups  Self-rising flour
1 med  Onion, chopped fine
1/4 tsp  Garlic powder
2 TBS  Jalapeño, minced*
15 oz can  Cream style sweet corn

Optional:
*Use bell pepper instead of jalapeño

Directions
Mix all ingredients.


Spoon tablespoon size balls into boiling oil (see post on frying).
Fry (flipping over as necessary) until hush puppies are floating and medium brown on both sides.


Place on paper towel to drain and keep in warmer until all are fried.


Serve warm.  Hush puppies come and hush puppies go but this hush puppy recipe will stay with you the rest of your life.  And of course you'll need these every time you fry fish.

  1. I love homemade Hush puppies, but have never made them myself. There is no egg or milk in this recipe?? It seems that it would be a very dry mixture with only the can of cream corn as binder. Love jalapenos too!

    1. This is my family's favorite hush puppy recipe. They ask for them at every fish fry and bbq. They are perfect , though I usually do 2 batches, one without peppers for the kids and I always use fresh jalapeños in the other batch.

    That's correct - no other liquid necessary. Scoop it out and drop it in the oil to get a perfect hush puppy. Not too dry, perfect!

  3. I tried the recipe and it awesome...added a few thing but you would never know thre is noegg or milk!
