|Louis Martini Monte Rosso Vineyard Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999|
"Impressive for its rich, tight, deeply concentrated core of spice and anise-laced currant and blackberry flavors. Sharply focused, intense and concentrated, its mouth filling fruit flavors are long and complex on the finish, with well-integrated tannins. A great wine for the cellar. Best from 2004 through 2014."It was a beautiful wine then and even more gorgeous now. My wife and I opened this lovely to celebrate our 13th Anniversary. I was impressed when I first tried this wine but even more so now. It has evolved well over the last decade.
Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2002
The nose shows off still ripe dark cherry and spice. The wine literally opens up on the palate showcasing bright acidity that dances with your taste buds delighting them with a very lively youthful wine. The dark cherry and plum fleshy fruit keeps drawing us back for another taste. We can't believe how young this wine is tasting. With hints of herb and anise, integrated but consistent tannin make this a very balanced young teenager that screams for a few more years.
Don't get me wrong. Its drinking near perfection now but with a few more years some of the tertiary components should kick while it still has that bright acidity and youth to make it truly dazzling.
